You can always position a curved sofa or sectional in a corner in which case you’ll be left with an empty little space behind it. You can fill that with a floor lamp, a tall plant or some other suitable accent piece or decoration. Another option is to include the sofa or sectional in a circular grouping. Maybe you could pair it with a couple of armchairs or poufs to complete the circle or you could have it face a fireplace. Also, if possible, it would be nice to have the sofa or sectional placed across from a focal point or a window with a nice view.

In the meantime, what do you think? Do you struggle to get enough seating in your living space? Do you have a small living room? Do you think (counterintuitive though it may seem) that a large sectional might be your answer? I’d love to know!

Known for its exposed wood and elegant legs, reminiscent of the Louis XV period, the cabriole also has a distinctive silhouette. It was also a popular shape in the work of furniture maker Thomas Chippendale.

Article also offers the Cube in white (which I would love, but I don’t find it practical at this stage in our family’s life) and a Thunder Gray (which was actually my original choice, but the Glacier Blue was available more quickly and I liked the idea of a lighter color). All that to say, it’s a lovely color but definitely a blue gray, not a warm gray.

This is an accent chair that looks lightweight and slender as well as super comfortable. It actually comes in three versions: with a low, medium or high backrest. We absolutely love its timeless and elegant design, the smooth edges, curves and the sculptural frame made of solid oak. The patinated brass rail is a very cool detail as well. The cushions are available in either fabric or leather and there are various combinations you can choose from in terms of materials overall.

Yours truly is remembering a hallway-like common area that she and two roommates shared in New York City, in which an armchair was so crushed up next to a couch that they overlapped at the arms, the corner between them occupied by a side table that could fit a lamp and nothing else (and that was so crammed into the space you couldn't even see the legs of it, let alone clean it). But a sectional—the right size sectional—could have added one more seat to that corner, relaxing the cramped nature of the room we'd so poorly devised.

Just like its namesake, the camelback sofa has a hump — or maybe two — that accents the main silhouette of this sofa style. This is a traditional style that was made popular in the 18th century by Chippendale and families who wanted aristocratic, formal furniture often opted for this style.

They’re quirky and cozy, but the whimsical air of works by artist Porky Hefer belies the deeper meaning of the hanging seats he creates. From animal shapes to ovate seats woven from various materials, the “nests” that the South African artist designs are definitely conversation pieces. The materials he uses, the craftspeople who contribute their skills and the underlying inspiration make these more than simple hanging seats.

Training with master weaver Ismael Bey led Hefer to the Cape Town Society for the Blind, where Bey had also trained weavers. Collaborating with the society and Woodheads, a local leather company that has a 150-year history, Hefer brings his nests to life using leather offcuts and the native source of skills.

If your friends find out how you made it, they'll want to buy yours or have you make one for them. You'd never believe this was once a shipping pallet, right? A combination of textured chartreuse fabric, dressmaker detailed gray velvet buttons and silver-tipped modern legs means this ottoman will take center stage in any home or studio.
