With the recent surge in popularity of the Mid-Century Modern design genre, this sofa style is a hot item. Whether true vintage pieces, reproductions or new designs that incorporate Mid-Century Modern elements, these are very versatile sofas. Most often used in a minimalist or mid-century design scheme, they are wonderful for adding a retro feel to a room. The distinguishing elements include the exposed legs and linear structure. Most mid-century sofas — but not all of them — will have some tufting on the back.
Before anything else, you should find a suitable spot for a curved sofa or sectional in your home.In theory, you have lots of options to choose from. If your home has a curved wall, you already have the area set up perfectly for such a sofa, couch or sectional. Of course, these cases are quite rare so chances are you’ll have to rely on something else to make your curved sofa look at home.
Hefer – his real last name — grew up in Johannesburg with a decidedly unartistic background. From high school athlete to army conscript to graphic designer, he eventually landed at Hunt Lascaris advertising as a commercial artist. From there, he evolved into his current work, armed with plenty of self-described “big ideas.” Hefer has said that his designs spring from a single question: Why does a chair have to be a chair? His collective works are a vivid representation of the fact that it doesn’t have to be.
The whale-shaped chair is called Fiona Blackfish, in a reference to the documentary expose on killer whale treatment in Sea World parks. The furry pink tongue is a textural contrast to the leather and makes you want to be swallowed up like Jonah.
