Our walls, which are Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray, are my favorite – light gray with some warm tones – and our kitchen cabinets are a darker warm gray. The gray blue of the sectional really is beautiful (and actually complements our marble in the kitchen really well). I think it will be a very forgiving color: light enough to help the room feel bright (remember one of my goals?), but dark enough to hide the inevitable grime of young kids.

Yours truly is remembering a hallway-like common area that she and two roommates shared in New York City, in which an armchair was so crushed up next to a couch that they overlapped at the arms, the corner between them occupied by a side table that could fit a lamp and nothing else (and that was so crammed into the space you couldn't even see the legs of it, let alone clean it). But a sectional—the right size sectional—could have added one more seat to that corner, relaxing the cramped nature of the room we'd so poorly devised.

Rising to popularity in the in the 18th century, historical websites note that this iconic sofa has a slightly murky history. It is thought that the fourth Earl of Chesterfield commissioned it when he wanted a comfortable seat that allowed him to sit upright, however, there is no historical confirmation of this.

You can always position a curved sofa or sectional in a corner in which case you’ll be left with an empty little space behind it. You can fill that with a floor lamp, a tall plant or some other suitable accent piece or decoration. Another option is to include the sofa or sectional in a circular grouping. Maybe you could pair it with a couple of armchairs or poufs to complete the circle or you could have it face a fireplace. Also, if possible, it would be nice to have the sofa or sectional placed across from a focal point or a window with a nice view.

There are a lot of comfortable chairs out there and while some only offer the illusion of comfort by looking cozy, the ones that we’re interested in take things further and are created with this specific detail in mind. One of these options is the Archibald Gran Comfort lounge chair designed by Jean-Marie Massaud. It’s one of the best options if you want to set up a cozy reading corner.

Although there are compact models which you can opt for, curved sofas and sectionals usually occupy a lot of space, not only because of their shape and size but also because they need plenty of free space around them so everyone can be comfortable while sitting down or walking around the room. That being said, you need to carefully consider the design and proportions of the sofa before bringing it home.
