Although there are compact models which you can opt for, curved sofas and sectionals usually occupy a lot of space, not only because of their shape and size but also because they need plenty of free space around them so everyone can be comfortable while sitting down or walking around the room. That being said, you need to carefully consider the design and proportions of the sofa before bringing it home.

Button detail upholstered ottomans make a gorgeous centrepiece in any living space and a large tray is crucial in order to make sure it is as functional as it is stylish, creating a flat surface that will allow you to rest a drink or plate on. Look for large trays with handles that can be used to transport drinks from the kitchen like this one show in this design by Mackenzie & Temple Architects & Designers.

Since I’ve had at least one little one in the house learning to walk for the past six years, I’ve been a big fan of tufted ottomans used as “coffee tables.” But I’ve never loved one as much as I love this. The Timpani in Charme Tan is incredibly gorgeous. The modular sofa is the piece that makes the room work, but the ottoman is the piece I am smitten by: the beautiful light brown real leather, the stitching in such a pretty pattern, the slight tufting… it’s all perfect. And totally baby friendly.

You can always position a curved sofa or sectional in a corner in which case you’ll be left with an empty little space behind it. You can fill that with a floor lamp, a tall plant or some other suitable accent piece or decoration. Another option is to include the sofa or sectional in a circular grouping. Maybe you could pair it with a couple of armchairs or poufs to complete the circle or you could have it face a fireplace. Also, if possible, it would be nice to have the sofa or sectional placed across from a focal point or a window with a nice view.

Instead of attaching the buttons with a nail back or hand stitching them into place, I used a template, marked the button placement with chalk and then made an "X" with two staples where the covered buttons will be glued into place.

Known for its exposed wood and elegant legs, reminiscent of the Louis XV period, the cabriole also has a distinctive silhouette. It was also a popular shape in the work of furniture maker Thomas Chippendale.

Yours truly is remembering a hallway-like common area that she and two roommates shared in New York City, in which an armchair was so crushed up next to a couch that they overlapped at the arms, the corner between them occupied by a side table that could fit a lamp and nothing else (and that was so crammed into the space you couldn't even see the legs of it, let alone clean it). But a sectional—the right size sectional—could have added one more seat to that corner, relaxing the cramped nature of the room we'd so poorly devised.
