This is an accent chair that looks lightweight and slender as well as super comfortable. It actually comes in three versions: with a low, medium or high backrest. We absolutely love its timeless and elegant design, the smooth edges, curves and the sculptural frame made of solid oak. The patinated brass rail is a very cool detail as well. The cushions are available in either fabric or leather and there are various combinations you can choose from in terms of materials overall.

"I think it's the same reason we often paint small spaces dark—which can feel counterintuitive but actually works so, so well in small rooms (den, powder room, etc.)," says designer Caroline Burke of Anna Burke Interiors. "A sectional can give you that maxed-out seating and help the room feel like a cozy nook, not a cramped back office."

No matter what form his work takes, it is part of an ever-growing artistic movement celebrating individualistic hand-crafted pieces as an antidote to today’s mass production. The mastery of different materials and the high level of workmanship is evident in the details on all his chairs. For example, mere stitching between the sections of leather is elevated to an important design detail on all the seats.

The whale-shaped chair is called Fiona Blackfish, in a reference to the documentary expose on killer whale treatment in Sea World parks. The furry pink tongue is a textural contrast to the leather and makes you want to be swallowed up like Jonah.

It is the most important piece because it anchors the space and is typically the largest item of furniture in the living room. The sofa style sets the tone for the room and will drive the look and style for the rest of the decor. As with any major furniture purchase, it’s best to plan before you head for the store. First, it is important to know what color and size sofa you need. It’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with the different sofa styles that are available so that you can identify the styles you like. Here are 10 popular sofa styles that can be found in most stores and online.

An ottoman, by definition, is typically a short and padded piece of furniture that is often used as a footstool, though they do have other uses. Ottomans often look like little furniture cubes, but can come in other shapes and styles. Not all ottomans are square; round and octagonal are other popular shapes for ottomans. Also, while most ottomans appear solid, with hidden storage under the seat, there are a number of open bottom designed options.

When we first moved in, we had the tv on a bench in front of the window, two oversized brown leather pieces floating opposite the tv, a bookcase tucked into the corner, and an old tufted ottoman in the center. They all looked beautiful in our old living room (where the tv hung on the wall above the fireplace), but in this room they were awkward and totally inefficient. The room felt cramped, and we could still only seat 4-5 people.
